MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) chief Glicerio Cansilao on Sunday admitted that a recovered vehicle used for kidnapping was parked in Camp Crame, the police headquarters, but denied that anyone in his unit is using the vehicle for personal use.

AKG chief denies using ‘kidnap’ car for personal purposes
Cansilao made the statement in response to claims that a Ford Everest SUV was found at the MOQ-14 Officers’ Row, the quarters of high-ranking officials, and that the vehicle is being used by members of the PNP.
In July this year, AKG operatives recovered the vehicle and rescued a kidnapped Chinese businessman inside. The rescue had led to the arrest of six Chinese suspects and six Filipino cohorts.
Because of the controversy, the Headquarters Support Service issued a memorandum banning security and aides from parking their vehicles in a lot of the MOQ-14 Officers’ Row.
In an interview with The Manila Times, Cansilao clarified that the area where the SUV was parked is a vacant lot near officers’ quarters, temporarily intended to house recovered vehicles.
“I just want to clarify that no PNP personnel are using the vehicle in question. Regarding the claim that it was parked near officers’ quarters, let me be clear—no AKG personnel live there,”

Cansilao added that the owner of the SUV can check the vehicle’s past routes through its GPS system.
“We have already returned the vehicle to the AKG. As for the other recovered vehicles, we have already coordinated with the HPG for transfer,” he said.
Cansilao said that the vehicle is now part of their evidence, and if the owner intends to recover it, they must file a motion in court.
